Lesley & Jon

Lesley & Jon's wedding was the final wedding of the year, and I couldn't wait for it!  It was in New York, EXCELLENT, I love being there, and as soon as Lesley uttered the words "the ceremony will be in front of a huge Christmas tree", I was hooked!

Lesley has such an incredible sense of style...she looked like something straight out of old Hollywood, and she was responsible for so many of the beautiful touches throughout the wedding.  They also had a dinner style I had not seen before, but LOVED...no sit down dinner, but buffet stations that were open throughout the night, so people ate and drank and danced whenever they felt like it!  I absolutely LOVED that, and if I were getting married again, I would do exactly the same thing!

Every wedding has a unique feel of its own, and this was no exception--the guests had FUN at this wedding.  I definitely captured some of my favorite reception shots of my year!  Not to mention my super favorite shot of Lesley and Jon in the reflection of the Christmas ornament...sweeeeeet!!!

Lesley and Jon, thanks for letting us share on your big (and super beautiful) day..it isn't often that we have as much FUN at a wedding as we did at yours!  Enjoy your peek!

deirdre & frank

This was set to by my ultimate wedding of the year.  And MAN.  It was, and more.

Let me start by saying that I landed this gig because of a photograph I took of their dog.

Yes, Dixie.  I had been at Deirdre's parent's house, photographing Andrea (Deirdre's sister), and her new family, and happened to snap a couple of Miss Dixie.  Apparently, they liked my work, or Dixie had nothing but good things to say about me, because before I knew it, I was booked for their day-after-Thanksgiving wedding!

They day was wonderful.  We started at the salon, and I got to know the girls, and her mom, (another reason why I LOVE the getting ready shots) and had some time to relax at Andrea's house before getting ready.  Those hours were a gift--not being rushed, being able to seek out the different shots, let Jack, the 2-year old ring bearer, take his sweet time as my official assistant.  There was rain, a little snow, a passing thunderstorm, and finally sun!

They had some of the neatest touches I've seen at a wedding;  a bentley restored by Deirdre's dad, a white cape suitable for a snow princess, a photo booth at the reception, and even the bride and her cousins did a traditional Irish step dance!  Fantastic.

One of the things I like best about weddings is that if it really works, I leave feeling like I have made new friends, and without a doubt, that is how I feel about Deirdre and Frank. I fully expect an invitation to Sunday dinner soon, you guys.

Enjoy your peek!

megan & jeff

I have always said how luck I am, that I seem to find myself with some of the most beautiful couples to photograph, and Meg and Jeff absolutely fit that bill!  And then some!  Their wedding was at the lovely Rhode Island Country Club, and though the weather did NOT cooperate, I have a hard time imagining a more beautiful day.

They decided to see each other before the ceremony to get formal photos done.  They wanted to be able to enjoy all the time with their guests that they could.  This has to be the coolest thing, and to all of my future brides and grooms, I highly recommend this.  The "first meeting" pictures are so wonderful, and it really does free up so much time after the ceremony.  We had planned to go to the beach that is there at the club BEFORE the ceremony, but mother nature had other plans, so we settled for the beautiful main room in the club.  The ceremony was officiated by Meg's grandmother!  Isn't that the neatest thing??  How many people can say they were married by their grandmother??  The rain finally let up after the ceremony, and we decided to hit the beach.  And thank heavens we did, because I managed to capture what is sure to be some pf my most favorite wedding photos to date.

I loved the whole wedding party, especially Meg's sister Jen, and she and the best man gave two of the funniest, sweetest, most touching toasts.  My favorite line from the best man:  "People say a good marriage each gives 50-50, but I say, if you're only giving 50-50, you're in a sinking ship.  Marriage is 100-100."  Wise words indeed!

Meg also had a sweet surprise for Jen.  When Jen got married, her father couldn't be at the reception.  She always said how hard it was going to be to watch Meg dancing with their dad.   So when it was that time, Meg got on the mike, called here sister up and said she wouldn't dance with their father until Jen danced with him first.  Not a dry eye in the house, myself included!!

Meg and Jeff, I really loved being a part of your day, and hope you enjoy your sneak peek!

(you can tell how much I love this wedding, I posted about a zillion photos....)

we came, we saw, we conquered.

In the car, on out way home. We had a wonderful weekend! Walked and walked, had some really great eats and the best kind of alone time we could ask for. Have lots of photos to share, and we even had a cool celebrity sighting....Chris Noth! Mr. Big! Detective Logan right in front of me! Loved it.

Kelly & Rob

I had the very great honor of photographing Kelly and Rob's wedding over Memorial Day weekend.  I feel like we were booked and ready for so long that by the time the big day approached I felt more like I was attending the wedding of a couple of my friends, as opposed to just clients.  (Can you say bonus?)

If there is a couple who is more in love with each other, I have yet to see it. They managed a perfect late-May afternoon, and the details throughout the wedding were fresh and lovely.  What might have been the nicest detail was that Kelly's mom was the Matron of Honor, and Rob's father was the Best Man.  It was touching and emotional, seeing the parents standing at their children's' side on their most important day.  I found myself caught up in the emotion of the day, happy to have my camera at my face, hiding the tears at times!

Then there was the event that clinched their coolness factor:  Kelly going into a 7-11 for a snack and giving me an image in the candy aisle that will go down as an all-time favorite photo of mine forever.  Seriously awesome.  And they were like that with all the photos...hey Kelly, want to take some pictures in the 7-11? Sure!  How about you two go sit on that picnic bench?  Alright!

The most wonderful part was that Kelly and Rob really seemed to enjoy each other, the company of their friends and families, and their day.  I find that it is easy to get wrapped up in all the details that couples sometimes forget to be in the moment...not so for these two.  And let me tell you, it shows in the photos!

Kelly and Rob, I love you guys. I hope you enjoy your sneak peek, and your gallery will be up shortly!

Photography workshop!!!

I am so excited to announce the first photography workshop!

When:  Sunday, July 20th, 2008
Where:  Providence (my house, downtown, and Roger Williams Park) noon until after sunset
Who:  Anyone who is wanting to know more about their camera, getting it off the "AUTO" setting, and photography techniques in a hands-on environment
Why:  Well, because you asked!

Come and spend the afternoon in the Ocean State, talking, shooting, laughing, learning.  This day is geared to beginner through intermediate photographers with digital SLR cameras.  I know lots of folks have them but don't fully understand the manual functions and how they work to create incredible photos.

We'll start at my house at noon, have a bite to eat, talk shop, then head out for an afternoon of practice together.

The cost for the day is $100, and I am limiting the space to 8 people....let me know if you are interested and I'll sign you right up.

e-mail me at sarah@sweetjaneonline.com with questions and sign-ups.  It is going to be a great day and I hope to see you there!

the berg family

How can you not love these guys?   The littlest Berg, Chloe, was the perfect model, willing to jump and dance and sing at my insistence.  It was harder to convince Jonah that I was cool, but once he did, he was all smiles and piano playing and baseball.  It's always the ones who seem the most shy who end up having the most fun being photographed!  Cindy and Evan were great sports, especially when I wanted to take a few of just the two of them in their doorway....thanks guys!

Enjoy the sneak peek!

Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep

NILMDTS is an organization I am exceedingly proud to be a part of.  It is infant bereavement and remembrance photography.  It is an incredible organization that provides photography sessions to families experiencing the loss of their baby.  Many parents know long before the baby is born that their child will be born with only days, hours, minutes to live.  NILMDTS sessions provide a loving testamnt to the baby, a record to keep forever that they were important, they were loved, they were here, for however brief a time.  The Today Show did a piece on the organization, I've included it below.

If you are interested in being a part of the organization, learning more, or making a donation, please don't hesitate to drop me a note.

**I want to prepare you: this piece can be difficult to watch, it is so very sad.  If you are going to watch, grab a tissue or two.**
